International Women’s Day is observed on 8 March and is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality. International Women’s Day has occurred for well over a century.
At DBA we are committed to equal opportunities for people regardless of gender, background, or beliefs. Testament to his is our diverse workforce, which includes staff from many cultural backgrounds around the globe.
However, it doesn’t stop there. As the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is Gender Equity, we at DBA believe that creating gender equity helps us to cultivate the presence of diversity of thought in our company, which in turn helps us create stronger more effective businesses.
Furthermore, as part of GUD Holdings, DBA is looking forward to implementing the Group’s 2023 - 2025 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Plan later this year.
In the meantime, we are proud to share one of the many female success stories at DBA with you. Read what Molly Beyer, who recently joined DBA as Executive Assistant, has to say about International Women’s Day and her role as a female at DBA:
“I am all for a world free of discrimination, stereotypes and sexism, however, today means so much more to me than all of the above and actually relates to my place here at DBA.
I wanted to take this opportunity to share a bit about my background given that I am relatively new to the DBA team.
I went to an all-girls high school and thrived in an environment of constant support from my peers and the opportunities provided by my teachers, and was allowed space for creativity and learning.
I was soon so in love with the idea of there being a ‘corporate world’ that I wanted to drop out and get a head start. My Mum very much denied this request. Instead, I talked to my business teacher, and she suggested starting a traineeship with a company where I would work and study Business further. I loved the thought of this idea. So, I went on to finish my HSC topping my class in Business, and studied Business Cert III and IV, whilst simultaneously completing my traineeship.
Over the years, I’ve worked from Banking to Packaging to Logistics facing multiple hurdles and setbacks. Nearly every role I’ve had, there’s been a strong female role model for me to look up to and to guide me. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. However, it hasn’t just been female managers and CEO’s that I’ve been inspired by - it’s my friends that are now mothers, it’s my mother and her mother, it’s the female teachers who believed in me. Because these women had such a positive impact on me, I hope I make a positive impact on not only females at DBA but every single person. I will aspire to being that strong female role model that I once looked up to.”
Happy International Women’s Day!
